After
"...Coming Out From the Woods!" ('03) debut
album released by Big Bongo Records and the apparition
on The Nomads Tribute Compilation, the swedish Supercriket
increased their fame all around the world. Now it's
time to talk with Steven, Tollwè and Schilla.
Hi guys
Can introduce yourself
to our readers?
Steven: Hi, we are the
swedish rock-trio Super Cricket, we deliver hard swinging,
riff-rocking music. We comes from different parts of
Sweden and met at a party in Stockholm in 98, we started
up the band Super Cricket. I´m the bas-player
in the band.
Tollwè: I´m
the drummer.
Schilla: I play guitar
and sing the words.
Your first full-length album
was released in 2003, isn't it? Can you say something
about it?
Steven: We released the
album "...coming out from the woods!!!" in
February 2003. It´s a record with 10 rock-songs,
written and played directly from the guts.
Schilla: I hope the listeners
will get the same feeling when they listen to the record
as when they see us on a stage. Much energy and lots
of good melodies.
Why did it take so long to do
your own album
You're around since '98 (from a
legendary party in Stockholm!!!), almost 6 years up
to now... What have you been doing in the meanwhile?
Schilla: We have focused
on doing good songs and play shows all around Sweden.
Steven: We played very
much live, to get known before we released a record.
Tollwè: In the middle
of 2002 we met the guys from the record-company Big
Bongo Records. We started to talk about a Super Cricket
release, everything felt very good so we started to
record it.
From listening to your album
I would think your main influence is the kind of groups
deriving from master Hellacopters. Which other bands
did you like and have you been influenced by?
Steven: We are influenced
by very much and very different things. If i speak for
myself I say The Clash, Depeche Mode, David Bowie, but
also rockacts like The Sonics, Stooges and Captain Beyond.
Tollwè: AC/DC have
always been and will always be my main influence.
Schilla: I like thinks
like The Stooges, Roling Stones and The Band, I suppose
I´m influenced by that.
A "My Deadly Game"
cover appears also on The Nomads tribute compilation
"Twenty Years to Soon"
How important
is this band for you?
Schilla: It´s a good
band and they are very important for the whole garage-scene.
They show us the way, it´s up to us to do it better.
Steven: It´s hard
to find a band with a better live-groove. I´m
impressed.
On this compilation your name
appear with huge names of Swedish artist like The Dictators,
Electric Frankenstein, The Hellacopters, Maryslim
How
do you feel to be on the same album and to be compared
with bands like these?
Tollwè: We´re
proud to be on this record and we´re thrilled
to be compared with these bands that we listen to.
Steven: In many reviews
they say that Super Cricket takes the cake, that´s
nice in a competition like this.
Do you think it has been important
for your growth to be in a place like Scandinavia? I
mean
The style of life, the kind of people you
have around...
Steven: Of course it´s
important were you live. You´re formed by the
things around you. I think scandinavia is a good place
to be a musician. It´s cold so it´s nice
to be in the rehearsingstudio.
Schilla: There are many
bands here and many clubs, a good musiclife.
What is your opinion about Swedish
Rock scene? Better or worst than the Metal scene? I
know the latest one is shooting lots of big artist from
up there!!
Steven: We are not so familiar
with the metal scene, but I think there are a lot of
good hard bands from Sweden. For exemple Entombed and
Nine. They are great. The Swedish rock scene is unbelievable.
We have Hellacopters, Hives, Soundtrack of our lives,
excelent bands. But we also have a lot of unknown very
great bands like sewergrooves, maggots, terpentines
and many more. The rock scene is the winner.
In fact you worked with T. Castensson,
from Nine
Really different genre from yours! Do
you know them? How was the recording experience with
Tor?
Schilla: Yes, we are close
friends with Nine and share the same rehearsingstudio.
Tor has a feeling for music.
Steven: It was very good
to have him as a producer, I think it gave us a little
bit harder sound.
Who of you guys is writing the
music and lyrics of your songs? From what, where or
who do you find your inspiration?
Tollwè: We do almost
everything together. One of us comes with an idea and
we all put our hands on it and we´re not satisfied
until it rocks.
Schilla: The inspiration
comes from the joy of making the tunes groove and from
the feeling to play it live.
You're recording a video, isn't
it? Would you like to tell us something about it?
Steven: The video is for
the song "lifestyle pro" and it´s about
people with lack of selfconfidence and people who cares
too much about their looks.
And you just played in your lovely
town (on 29th). How did your gig go?
Tollwè: Fantastic
gig!! We´ve been working on new songs this fall
and haven´t played shows since August.
Steven: The new songs did
work very well and was apreciated by the audience.
Schilla: The place was
crowded and the party was great!
Any plans to go outside Scandinavia?
What about Italy?
Steven: We´re working
on some shows in England right now and our plans is
to play all over Europe and all over the world!
Schilla: We would like
to play in Italy as well! So if any of the readers are
booking gigs. Give us a call.
